For Amateur Radio Enthusiasts

For those amateurs who enjoy experimenting with creative simple antennas using "Yankee Ingenuity" [Use what you have, with a survivalist spirit], often in portable-outdoor settings.

Examples include antennas in the following forms [But not limited to]: Kite-lifted; loops; long wires; long wires suspended from small aircraft; a tree; aluminum stepladders; aluminum canoes; rain gutters; screen doors; abandoned telegraph lines; or anything that resonates. Also encouraged are a mix and match between creative antennas and creative counterpoises. Such counterpoises could be, for example: Tall cranes; abandoned railroad tracks; lakes; the sea; rivers; highway guardrails; a metal fence; farmer's windmills; a steel highway bridge, etc.

You are familiar with a, "DXpedition", an overseas trip to operate ham radio from a special location. We'd like to introduce you to, "PortaVenture", meaning adventure trips to some special location or operating form while within one's own country. That could be operating from the Statue of Liberty, the "Field of Dreams" or any special-to-the-operator remote site. It might mean operating from atop a fire-tower, a pontoon boat or just your favorite campsite. You name the portable adventure, and the term, "PortaVenture" might just apply. That too, is what this list is all about.

Let the fun begin! Please intro yourself to the list. Perhaps tell how long you have been a ham, your QTH and a bit about yourself. Feel free to announce to the list when and where you might be on the air, with what antenna. It will be fun to work eachother! Tell us what your experiment might be, or some stories of your recent contacts.

Note: Spamming is not allowed. Simply keep your post "on-topic".
